Osteopathic medicine is a manual therapy, in which one attempts to discover the cause of the problem. The body is a unity of moving and functioning, in which following systems should be in balance with one another:
Parietal system: bones, muscles, tendons, joints, vertebras, etc.
Visceral system: organs with its blood vessels, lymph and nerves.
Cranial-sacral system: skull and spinal column, with its cerebral fluid, membranes and nerve system and all its functions.
A body that is in whole, can obtain this balance between these three systems itself. But trauma, wrong feeding or stress can all disturb this balance, so help is necessary to restore this balance. An osteopath searches for blockades in the body which prevents restoration of this balance. By treating these blockades, the body restores its self-regulating ability whereby the symptoms disappear.
An osteopath researches and treats only with its hands. He will not use any kind of sedation.
An osteopath is no replacer of a veterinary.
Osteopathy is complementary.
